The Mission 

Paul Serwatka Lakewood Tax Fighter

To Promote and Restore Accountable Government
and Lower Property Tax Burdens For Lakewood Families.
 

“The Lakewood Tax-Fighter & Better Government Project” is the first of its kind, serving to promote and restore accountability in our village government and to help to reduce property tax burdens for Lakewood families.

 

More specifically, the project aims to:

 

  • Expand awareness of pertinent local issues

  • Organize and engage residents​

  • Promote and restore transparency and fiscally responsible policies locally

  • Reduce property tax burdens  

  • Identify and help elect individuals committed to these principles

 

Something Entirely Different 

                                        

There are many “feel-good”, and I believe disingenuous, so-called “initiatives” out there claiming to stand for “Better Government” or “Property Tax Relief.”
 

Some hold protests, some collect data, most ask for money, some even have meetings - yet few of these ever seem to really achieve anything that actually affects the taxes we pay or, in any measurable way, impacts the quality of life for those who sign-on.

is something ENTIRELY DIFFERENT!

Our most recent success - a 10% CUT in Lakewood's Village Property Tax Levy - once again earned statewide recognition, stating:"Lakewood's Serwatka Shows What Reform-Oriented Government Could Do For Illinois - - You probably won’t hear a similar story anywhere throughout the state. - - The Village of Lakewood might be just one small village in Illinois. Village President, Paul Serwatka Successfully Cuts Lakewood Property Taxes 10%

More than 100 residents attended the December 12th and 18th discussions of [now] Lakewood Village President, Paul Serwatka's proposal to CUT village property taxes by 10%. 

​

Paul explained to the crowd, that this entire 10% tax reduction was made possible through; the restructuring of village administration, eliminating redundancies and creating efficiencies. He stressed that NO services would be cut or reduced.
​

This was, perhaps, the most telling of many victories that Lakewood residents have witnessed!​

Another recent success - another very important taxpayer protective measure - was the Dissolution of Lakewood's $66 MILLION DOLLAR TIF District - This was a tremendously important example of what Paul and his Lakewood Tax-Fighter Project have set out to achieve.

Paul Serwatka Successfully Abolishes $66 MILLION TIF District/Developer Subsidy

This successful effort was a HUGE WIN for Lakewood, and surrounding taxpayers, that first earned statewide recognition for the village of Lakewood as "a step in the right direction for Illinois."   - Illinois Policy - June 14, 2017

Another early, and critical, success was getting Lakewood's (and McHenry County's) First-Ever Property Tax Protection Referendum on the November 2016 General Election ballot – and then ensuring it's overwhelming success with more than 92% of Lakewood voters making their voices heard, at the ballot box!

This early success paved the way for the many victories that Lakewood has since seen.  

The Lakewood Tax-Fighter & Better Government Project is an entirely legitimate, and extremely effective reform initiative that has proven to yield REAL, TANGIBLE and MEASURABLE RESULTS for Lakewood residents - and will continue to have a noticeable and positive impact on the quality of life for Lakewood families, moving forward, as we continue to pursue and promote accountable government and actually work to reduce property tax burdens for Lakewood families!
